How God Answered My Friend

Image
"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." Jeremiah 33: 3 ---- On Saturday evening I texted my friend to let her know that I wouldn't be attending church the next day as I had to work. The next day, my friend sent me photos of a church event she was attending. When I told her I had been working at this hospital and museum for pensioners, she told me she almost applied for a role as an occupational therapist at that hospital. After I sent my friend some photos I had taken of the museum and hospital, she told me she had been wondering what the building looks like inside.  I told her God had made a way to answer her wondering by getting me that job and working through me to show her those photos. God is wonderful. ❤️ Some photos of the museum and hospital

Birthday Lunch

Image
"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us," Ephesians 3: 20 ---- A friend and I had planned to go out for lunch after church to celebrate my birthday.  When I saw her at church, she told me the restaurant we intended to go to was  closed on Sundays. She also said she was helping a group after church. Although I was disappointed, I figured we could go out another time. After the church service, which included a baptism, I went to hang out with some friends and church members. I had some cake which was provided by the baptism family.  One of the church ministers joined us and got everyone to sing Happy Birthday to me and another church member whose birthday is in two days' time. I was going to go home, but I decided to stay for a little while and chat to a church member I've never met before. While we were chatting my friend came in to look for me She told me the family who had the baptis...

Lost in Translation

Today, I volunteered as a visitor host, which entails giving visitors a guided tour around our church. Visitors come from all over the world and the UK. We provide written guides in various languages to meet their various needs. As we are aware visitors have different interests and time limits, before we start, we usually ask visitors what they're interested in or how long they have. When a colleague asked a visitor how long she had,  she said, "three days." She either has a lot of time to kill or she's lost in translation.  😀😀😀

I Need a New Scarf

Image
"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4: 19 ----- While I was getting ready for church, I thought to myself that I needed a new scarf.  Maybe,I'll pop into a store and look for one. I was also looking forward to catching up with my friend, who attends the same church as I haven't seen her in a few weeks. I also had a birthday gift for her. As I was walking to the church, I noticed the store I was going to pop into was closed. At church, I gave my friend my birthday gift. She also had gifts that she had bought for me while she was on holidays.  I waited until I got home before I opened up my gifts. One was a clog keyring and the other was a scarf. Very funny, God!  I bet you put the sxarf idea in my head, didn't you? 😄 The scarf is very much appreciated. ❤️ Photos of my new scarf and keyring

Volunteering

A few days ago, while I was volunteering as a steward at a church event, another steward told me her 16 year old daughter would be interested in volunteering at the museum I was working at.  She asked if I knew what the minimum age requirement was. I said I didn't know.  Another steward volunteer, who I happened to work with, offered to find out for her. Today, I returned to work after being off for a few days While I was having lunch at  the staff restaurant, this woman asked if she could share my table. We got chatting and it turned out she was a volunteer at the museum, which reminded me of the conversation I'd had at church. I asked her if she knew anything about young volunteers, but she didn't as she worked with older retired volunteers. (I found out later that the minimum age is 18). Of all of the hundreds of staff who worked at that museum, it's amazing how I had a volunteer sit opposite me at lunch. Only God could arrange that. That's what I love about walk...

St Paul's Cathedral

Image
Today, I went to visit my brothers and sisters in Christ at St Paul's Cathedral. I've never attended a service there before. Now is the perfect time! Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take photos inside the church. Suffice it to say, it looks very grand inside.  After the service, I saw a statue of someone very familiar - John Wesley (founder of the Methodist church).  A visotor, who happened to be a Merhodist Minister from Anerica, asked if I wanted him to take my photo with John Wesley's statue. I said yes. I also returned the favour. https://www.stpauls.co.uk/

He is Risen

To celebrate Jesus's resurrection, we brought flowers to decorate the Cross. ❤️

Good Friday Tradition

When my mum was alive, she and I had this tradition where we always watched a film about the life of Jesus on Good Friday. (It's usually on one of the BBC TV channels). After my mum passed, I carried on the tradition and continued to watch a film about Jesus on the BBC on my own on Good Friday.  I have decided to break away from that tradition. Today, I am attending a Good Friday service at my church. After the service, we are going on a prayer walk to Trafalgar Square to watch a play about the life of Jesus. When I go home, I shall still watch the film on the BBCIplayer that BBC2 is showing today called  "The Robe" about the centurion who was in charge of the crucifixion and was so affected by the experience, he converted to Christianity. God bless you all! ❤️

Walking Up the Stairs

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4: 13 ---- As I had arrived very early to volunteer at the Daffodil Day Service, one of the church elders asked if I could meet and greet guests who were arriving early. A lot of then were elderly and needed to be directed to the lifts. Later, I saw an elderly guest struggling to get up the stairs. I told her there were lifts available. She said she didn't like lifts and asked if I could help her. As I helped my friend up, I kept encouraging her until we got to the top.  I give thanks for Christ's strength which helped both of us get up those stairs effortlessly. ❤️

Some thoughts about the Daffodil Day Service

Image
"For as he thinks in his heart, so is he." Proverbs 23: 7 ---- The night before our church's Daffodil Day Service, where I was volunteering as a steward, I called a friend, who was also going to be a steward. In jest, I told her that as neither of us have done stewarding at a church event before, we might be asked to work at the balcony. My friend said she wouldn't mind. On the day of the service, both of us were allocated positions at different doors. I was with another colleague and she told me our door would be pretty quiet. We weren't even required to do offertory. While I was watching people arrive and take their seats,  I wondered whether some friends I had invited from another church were coming to the event. Suddenly, I saw a church elder speaking to my friend at the other door. He then came over and asked if he could move me to another position at the balcony.  I said I didn't mind. (I realised he had asked my friend, but she had declined). I wa...

The Helper Gives His Assent

Image
"And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.."  John 14: 16-17 ---- Before I went to church, I watched a pastor on a Christian TV channel  preaching about doing everything for the Lord. He cited a passage* from the Bible. I felt as if he was speaking directly to me. I looked up the Bible passage and copied and pasted it on my notebook app. Before I left home, I checked that I had all the essentials in my rucksack like my keys, travel card and purse. I was going to leave my reading glasses at home as they usually project the words on this screen which I can clearly see, but I decided to take my glasses with me.  During my bus journey to church, I meditated on doing everything for the Lord. This means when I go to work, I am not working for an employer, I am...

Tour Guide

Image
"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye." Psalm 32: 8 --- When I went to volunteer at our church as a visotor host, I was hoping to shadow one of the experienced hosts, but things didn't go according to plan. While I was shadowing one host who was with a group of visitors, a group of ten visitorS arrived and wanted soneone to show them the Great Hall. As there were no other experienced hosts available,  I had to take the plunge. They were really nice peoole and they didn't ask me any technical questions, thank God. The group also sang a hymn which was lovely.  I knew God was at work when one of them asked me a question that only the organist could answer. Next thing I knew, the organist walked in. He not only answered their question, he played the organ for them and we were all so delighted and grateful we applauded him. I also took two lovely ladies around the building and they were so grateful to be given a pers...

Church Host Volunteer

Image
I'm starting to volunteer as a  host showing visitors around our magnificent church building. As there's a lot of historical facts to learn about the building, I will be shadowing the experts until I am confident to go it alone.  I believe whether I am a confident or unconfident host, God will be my Guide every step of the way. A few interesting facts about the building: - The building was host to the very first meeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations in January 1946.  - The Great Hall, where they have the main service on Sundays, has hosted events with speakers like Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King Jr, Margaret Thatcher etc. - Last year the media used the building to broadcast King Charles' coronation.  I'm looking forward to getting to know more about the building and sharing that knowledge with visitors. ❤️ Here's the link for anyone interested in visiting. https://www.mchw.live/

Church Offering

As the church I was going to doesn't yet have the facility to pay your offering by card, I decided to withdraw some cash from the machine. I was going to get £10, but the machine said they only had £20 notes, which meant I had no choice but to withdraw £20. I then went to the local supermarket to get some change but I had to buy something. What can I get?  I looked at the chocolates, but I was reluctant to pay £1.50 for a bar of chocolate I didn't want. I decided to get a packet of sweets for 70pence. I asked the cashier to give me my change in £5 notes. Later when I came home, my flatmate told me she had a box of  mini bars of chocolates. She said I could have as many as I wanted. Now that was unexpected. Thank you, God, for the chocolates! ❤️

Local Church

Early this morning, I thought of the Church of England  (C of E) church next door to where I live. I thought one of these days, I'll attend one of their services. Later on the way to my local Methodist church, I bumped into the priest outside the C of E church. I told him I was thinking of paying them a visit sometime. He told me he had just posted events for this week on their noticeboard. He also told me they were running Bible classes for Lent, but they will be during the day. He then wished me a blessed day. I love how God answers my  questions. ❤️

Wonderful!

Image
The other day, I went for a tour of the Methodist church I'm a member of and took some photos including the Supreme Court. Today I went to my local Methodist church. After the service, I chatted to an Elder and asked how he was. He said he and his wife went for a walk last week, ended up at the Supreme Court and had a look round. I told him I had taken a photo of the Supreme Court. I even showed him the photo. How wonderful is that? 😊❤️

Thank You, God!

Image
On the way to church, I was praising and thanking God. At church, I was really excited when I saw the first hymn was "Now Thank We All Our God,"  but the melody wasn't one I was familiar with. I noticed several people frowning as they weren't familiar with that tune either. I had problems following the melody and I sang the tune I love. After the service, I went to complain to the organist. I told him I've loved that hymn since I was a child and was really disappointed when he played another tune. He was very sympathetic and said sometmes people prefer old tunes and he can't please everyone. He said it was the lay preacher who had asked him to play that particular tune.I  So I went to speak to thw lay preacher and told her how disappointed I was with the tune that was played. She told me she's an organist and lots of churches play that tune. I told her I've never heard it before.i thanked her anyway for the service. On the way out, I saw the organist a...

Russian Christmas Day

Image
Two weeks ago, while I was going for a walk, I noticed this Methodist church. I made a mental note to attend their service when I don't fancy travelling into central London to atrend my church. Today, I was inspired to attend this Methodist church for the first time. After the service, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I spoke to a church elder. He showed me a room where a Russian service was taking place. He said they were  celebrating Christmas. I told him I'm aware it's Russian Christmas day today as my flatmate is from Russia. I said she would have loved to attend the service if she knew about it. After the Russian service was over, they had some food to share. I had a chat with a few of the members and even had some Russian food and snacks. I then took some snacks home for my flatmate. My flatmate was delighted to hear about the church service. Thank you, God, fo r bringing this church to my attention.  ❤️ Merry Christmas to all my Russian friends! 🎄✝️

Candid Shot at Church Celebration

Image
II've just spotted myself in one of the photos taken during our church's 111th celebrations today and posted on their Facebook page.  This candid shot was taken while I was pouring some water for my friend sitting next to me in green and white.  A lot of people were in green and white because it's to celebrate Nigerian Independence Day. Green and white are the colours of the Nigerian flag. 🇳🇬 For the full photos see https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid02G2j3XC7hDdpTNSjdjvri4mwVZ4aJezr1zjvvib9wUQewBkSQ3waxZoKBPNyhVGtgl&id=100064599583400

Open House London

Image
"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him,and He shall bring it to pass." Psalm 37: 4-5 ---- I used to attend an event called Open House London every year. The event, which took place around the second weekend in September, was an opportunity for lovers of architecture to visit buildings which are not usually open to the public. Tours were organised for visitors to explore various buildings. Six years ago, I applied to become a volunteer for Open House London, but on the day I was really ill and couldn't do it. Since then, I've been receiving constant emails from them inviting me to volunteer for favourite events, but I've not been able to commit to any. This afternoon, my church  hosted an Open House London event for visitors to explore the building, including the dome. My friend told me she was volunteering for the event. She was asked to register visitors entering the buil...
