Reading Glasses, No Fear

"Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power." Colossians 2: 8-10

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7

Anyone who knows me from childhood might remember that I've been wearing glasses since I was a kid. At school, I always had to sit very close to the blackboard  because of my poor eyesight. At one time, I was even losing my eyesight, but it was miraculously restored. I still had to continue to wear glasses though.

I now have to wear glasses to read, but I can see fine at a distance.

In the UK, if any member of your immediate family has had glaucoma, you are entitled to a free eye test if you are over 40 years old. I had a test done 7 years ago and was prescribed a new reading glasses. As my eyesight has deteriorated somewhat, I recently went to the opticians and asked for a free test.

Because of my mum's medical history, they did various tests to look behind my eyes. The optometrist looked at the result and told me she was concerned I was developing x and I would need to go to hospital to see a specialist.  She recommended that I have another test done.

As I sat on the chair to take the test, I thanked God for being with me and giving me His peace.

After the test, the optometrist told me there was nothing wrong with my eyes. She said I just need to have another eye test done in a year's time. She also said I could  return if I was interested in a distance glasses. I told her I didn't need one.

What I learned from that experience is the importance of not being in fear. While I appreciate the optometrist was telling me what she believed, I didn't have to accept her fearful world view. I chose instead to accept God's view, which is not fear, but peace. ♥️
